Birthday & Valentine's Day Hike and Dinner

This weekend I turned 27. It is also Valentine's day. To celebrate we had a relaxing day of whatever I wanted (as well as tickets to Cirque de Soileil, a ski trip to Jackson Hole, a Holga camera, and chocolate waffles - I did well :) )! So we had a lazy morning, went on a really nice hike, and then out to dinner. We hiked from Wahkeema Falls to Multomah falls. It took us about two and a half and was so nice. It was a bit crowded down by each of the falls, but once we got onto the dirt trail and off the paved trail the crowds disappeared. There were tons of waterfalls and the scenery was amazing. I brought along my new Holga camera and Andy brought his too. There were plenty of opportunity for pictures. After the hike we went to dinner at the Portland City Grill and brought along a really nice bottle of wine. The dinner was good, though not my favorite. The view was cool because the restaurant is up really high in a building. After that we watched some of the Olympics...and I fell asleep. Overall, it was a totally awesome birthday!

Onesies!

Here are the onesies!!
They were amazing (and sooo warm and dry). We got high fives and comments all day long. It was a low visibility day, but Andy said he could see me way better than anyone or anything else! It was a lot of fun to wear them, and we kept laughing at each other. I want to wear mine again. Andy doesn't really, haha. It was snowing almost the whole time we were at Meadows and temp was low 30's, so not bad at all.

Easy Sunday

So...we decided to sleep in, do a crossword, and relax in favor of skiing. We both love skiing, but it is an all day affair with hours of car time. We both have to really want it to make it to Meadows, and waking up before 930 really helps too. The onesies will have to wait one more week...but considering they have been waiting decades, I think they can handle it. I did cook a little. I made tacos in the crockpot and baked smores cupcakes from a website (bakerella.com or something). Yumm. Time to gear up for Monday. Andy is busy studying and I am playing on the computer... typical. I also included a pic our of newest toy. A bike trainer. So far it has been awesome, and I like it much better than stationary bikes at the gym. Andy has been using it a lot too - I think it really helps him squeeze in a workout among his school and studies. Plus we have it parked in front of the tv on which we can now stream netflix b/c of our blu-ray player. score!

Home Brew # 2

Today we bottled the second beer that we have brewed at home. The first was a nut brown ale, that I named "Bust a Nut Brown" and this is a chocolate stout, named "Twist and Stout" by Andy. Last time we brewed I dropped the hydrometer in the carboy which led to a lot of interesting objects being stuck in the sterilized carboy. whoops. This time when it was time to add the yeast, we couldn't find it. Turns out it had fallen out of and rolled under the fridge , and looked like it had been there for a loong time. So while Andy brewed, I drove from Portland to Hillsboro (where there was the only open home brewing supply store at that hour) and caught the guys there as they were locking to leave! beer crisis averted. While bottling, I made pork shoulder and bbq sauce in the slow cooker which came out really good. I also tried a recipe I saw on the food network where you cook walnuts and maple syrup together on the stove. This also came out good and was super easy and fast. As for the beer, we will taste it next week. Other news, tmrw I think we will ski/board in our newly acquired onesies from Andy's parents. They are soo 80's and soo amazing. Hopefully I will have pics to show tmrw :)
